Biological processes

Anaerobic digestion is a biological process that takes place in the absence of oxygen
  1. Hydrolysis: Carbohydrate, protein and fat into smaller molecules.
  2. Acidogenesis: Fermenting bacteria breaks down monomers into smaller molecules i.e. H2, CO2, acetate and other products
  3. Acetogenesis: Acetogens further digest simple molecules to mainly acetic acid, H2, CO2
  4. Methanogenesis: Archaea produce methane from hydrogen and carbon dioxide or acetate
